With my series "Girlie Girls" I try to explore two different aesthetics that have influenced our understanding of beauty and sexuality when it comes to women's bodies. Female body issues have seeped into every aspect of the media, from reality shows and tabloids to family sitcoms and teen magazines. While trying to fight the "thin is sexy" paradigm it seems that people have overlooked naturally thin women and the fact that some curvier, "more womanly" women are also struggling with their health due to their excess weight. I want to illustrate the arbitrariness of sexiness and how those conventions change periodically. At the same time I want to delve into the impracticality of a plastic body, which looks nice but does not have the flexibility that the human body has and needs in order to perform properly.
